Judy Elliott receives Tom Botts Four-Way Test Award - October 22, 2009

At the October 22, 2009 club meeting, Judy Elliott, pictured above with club President Rollie Hausman, received the 2009 Tom Botts Four-Way Test Award. See the Awards & Honors Page for background about the award.

Past President Darlene Johnson presided over the award ceremony and made the following comments:

  • Judy joined the Rotary Club of Columbia April 24, 2001 and began serving immediately.

  • She is a Paul Harris Fellow.

  • She has received two District Awards:

    • The first was the Rotary District 6080 Governor's Citation in recognition of outstanding service to youth exchange programs in 2002-2003.

    • The second was the Rotary Foundation District Service Award which is awarded for outstanding service and for promoting the Rotary Foundation and its goal of world understanding. This award was presented to Judy at the 2009 District Conference in May.

  • Judy has served as the Columbia Rotary Club World Service Committee Mexico country coordinator since July 2008, including:

    • Securing a Rotary International Foundation grant to purchase equipment to fight cancer in women in Morelos, Mexico

    • Creating and implementing the Paws for Projects (silver bracelet fund raiser) to secure funds for construction of a home for Down's Syndrome children.

    • Formalizing a fraternal club relationship with Cuernavaca Oriente Rotary Club.

    • Serving as Director of Mexico Exchange visits and of an Ecology Matching Grant with Rotary International.

    • Coordinating defibrillators from Columbia Fire Department for Cuernavaca, Mexico, 2007.

  • Judy continued to completion the PET project for the Cuernavaca Club in conjunction
    with Tim Donovan, her favorite supporter and mentor.

  • She was the club's PolioPlus Co-chair, July 2008-2009.

  • She was Voting Delegate , and Grant Project Presenter at the Rotary District 6080 meeting in Springfield in April 2008 and again this year, 2009, at District Meeting at the Lake where she also created and installed our Club's project display.

  • Judy traveled (at her own expense) as a voting delegate and Grant Project Exhibitor to the Rotary International Convention in Los Angeles in June 2008.

  • She and Jim were Host family for Rotary GSE members from India 2005

  • She served as Rotary Short Term Exchange Organizer & Cultural Coordinator, District 6080, 2002-2006

  • Unmentioned are the many ways in which Judy (and husband Jim) have helped to make our International visitors feel welcome throughout the years and to bring our Club to the forefront on the district and international Levels.
